Super Eagles:  Akpoguma To Undergo Scan In Germany due to Head Injury-NationNews.ng-Latest News in Nigeria-sports-football

Kevin Akpoguma, a defender for TSG Hoffenheim, will get a scan after suffering a head injury last Friday while representing the Super Eagles internationally.

Following a head kick during an aerial battle, Akpoguma was forced to leave the Eagles’ 1-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.

He received a cut, had his head wrapped, and left the game in the 55th minute. But, the injury prevented him from playing in the Eagles’ 1-0 victory in Bissau on Monday.

The Nigerian defender is questionable for Saturday’s Bundesliga match between Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim.

Pellegrino Matarazzo, the coach of Hoffenheim, stated that it was too soon to determine the severity of the injury before the match with Bremen.

“He suffered a nasty knock on his head,” Matarazzo said.

“We will see tomorrow (today) with the results of the MRI scan. We will see tomorrow if it is badly damaged.”

The injury to the 27-year-old is Hoffenheim’s latest setback in a challenging season. Hoffenheim sits 15th in the Bundesliga with 22 points from 25 games, one place ahead of the playoff position for relegation.

With 31% of the vote, Akpoguma finished second to Angelo Stiller as Hoffenheim’s Player of the Month for March. He has made 23 appearances this season and has been cautioned eight times.
