South African artist murdered by a Nigerian.

Onyeghani Dumkele a Nigerian has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing an up-and-coming artiste, Shaun Douglas Chabalala, 23.

According to MSN, the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court also sentenced Dumkele, 37, to an additional 15 years in prison for aggravated robbery. He was also given a 12-month suspended sentence with the requirement that he be deported to his home country after serving out his concurrent sentence for murder and aggravated robbery.

Captain Daniel Mavimbela, a spokesman for the South African Police Service, claimed that in May 2018, Chabalala and his buddy Given Mzamane were tricked into going to the Tambotie apartment complex in Sunnyside, east of Pretoria, by a false advertisement for a high-end camera.

He claimed that the boys had gone there to purchase the camera and were carrying R14 000 in cash when they were lured into an ambush inside an apartment on the seventh floor where Dumkele resided.

Mavimbela said, “Upon entering the apartment, the victims were attacked by a group of men, and Chabalala succumbed to injuries and was declared dead on the scene.”

He added, “Mzamane testified that he forced his way out of the door and managed to escape. However, it was not before he had witnessed two men, who had participated in the robbery and attack on himself and Chabalala, lift Chabalala and throw him out of the window from the same apartment.”
