Foreign nations have recommended political parties recognize the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement of the election results. They also advised the parties to air their complaints after the election through the proper methods.
The diplomatic missions of the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Canada, and Norway released a unified statement on Wednesday 22 February.
On Wednesday, candidates for the presidency from various political parties signed the second Peace Agreement, which the Abdulsalami Abubakar-led Peace Committee organized.
Among those present were presidential candidates Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
According to the diplomatic missions, Nigeria’s stability and democratic consolidation depended on the signature of the peace accord.
As they sign the second peace pact, political parties have also received warnings from other nations to observe electoral laws and abstain from violence.
