The International Tables Tennis Federation revealed its most recent rankings on Monday, and Nigerian para-table tennis players skyrocketed in them.

Their accomplishments follow their recent triumphs at the four-day F-20 ranking point championships at the 2023 ITTF Masters Para Open in Italy, where they earned two silver and two bronze medals.

Bolawa Akingbemisilu, the only African to enter the top seven in the world after accruing 1145 points, was the greatest mover in the men’s class five of the most recent ranking. He was the silver medalist at the event in Italy after falling to Serbia’s Mitar Palikuca 3-2 in the final.

Akingbemisilu is reportedly expected to win a spot in the Paralympic Games in 2024 despite having no points prior to the ranking’s announcement in April.

Following their removal from the world rankings due to months of inactivity, the foursome consisting of team leader Tajudeen Agunbiade, Isau Ogunkunle, Faith Obiora, and Ahmed Koleosho were also ranked.

Ogunkunle, who also took home silver at the Para Open in Italy after falling to Kazuki Shichino of Japan in the championship match by a score of 3-2, is currently ranked 17th in the men’s class four, while Koleosho is placed 40th in the men’s class three.
