Nigerian striker Ademola Lookman became the first striker to reach that milestone in his first season for the Nerazzurri in 70 years after scoring his 13th league goal in Atalanta’s 3-1 victory over Cremonese in a Serie A match played at the Stadio Giovanni Zini on Saturday.
The Nigerian international scored Atalanta’s third goal against Cremonese last weekend, snapping a seven-game goalless streak.
The 25-year-old winger replaced Luis Muriel in the 46th minute and scored his 13th goal in 27 league games, his first goal since January.
For Gian Piero Gasperini’s team, the former Everton striker has also been impressive and a key member of the squad.
In 29 games for the Nerazzurri this season, the winger has scored a total of 15 goals in all competitions.
The former Leicester City winger became the first Atalanta player to score 13 goals in his first Serie A season since Poul Rasmussen in 1952/1953, according to the data source Stats Perform – Opta.
“With Saturday’s goal against Cremonese, Ademola Lookman became the rookie to have scored the most in this league.
“The Nigerian striker has reached 13 goals, detaching Kvaratskhelia of Napoli, and moving to third place overall in the scorer’s chart.
“The last Atalanta player to score at least 13 goals at this point of the season on his debut in Serie A was Poul Rasmussen in 1952/1953.”
