Williams Troost sustains injury

According to our correspondent, defender William Troost-Ekong is questionable for next month’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers between Nigeria and Guinea Bissau due to an injury.

In an effort to secure a spot at the AFCON in Ivory Coast next year, the Super Eagles will play the Djurtus in a two-legged matchup.

Before the Eagles go to Morocco for the second leg on March 28, the first leg takes place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 24.

The 29-year-old sustained the injury during Salernitana’s 1-0 loss to Hellas Verona last week, and Norbert Gyomber was brought on to take his place seven minutes from time after it was determined he couldn’t continue.

The club stated on its official website that William Troost-Ekong underwent an MRI and CAT scan at the Centro Polidiagnostico Check-Up, which revealed a fracture of the tibial plateau as a result of blunt trauma.
