Chelsea star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly thinking about returning to Barcelona just a year after leaving the Catalan powerhouses, according to Fichajes. He seems to value the notoriety he acquired while serving as Xavi Hernandez’s assistant.

Aubameyang joined the Blaugrana on a free transfer from Arsenal in January of last year. In his first La Liga campaign, he scored 11 goals in 17 games. He was allowed to join Chelsea last summer after Robert Lewandowski left Bayern Munich. After a disappointing Premier League campaign, a Chelsea star is reportedly eager to return to Barcelona.

Barcelona may now be looking for a new No. 9, meanwhile, in light of Memphis Depay’s January move to Atletico Madrid. The effect of this is that Lewandowski, 34, is now their lone natural center striker upfront2. Spotify Camp Nou’s future with Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres is also uncertain.

Because of his waning popularity, Graham Potter, the manager of SW6, decided to remove Aubameyang from his  team’s lineup for the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds.

The Gabonese international’s club fell 1-0 to Arsenal on November 6, the last time he started a league game. In 18 games across competitions, the 33-year-old has three goals for the west London powerhouse. A move to Barcelona may be in the works as he reportedly wants to conclude his career in Spain.

Aubameyang isn’t the pace demon he once was in his peak, but as he demonstrated last year, he still has a solid grasp of how to get around the goal. At the end of the forthcoming season, the short-term contract he signed with Chelsea last summer will expire. This might help Barcelona acquire the player at a lower price if they decide to make a bid.
