The ruling All Progressives Congress released its primary election schedule for the governorship positions in three states on Friday morning: Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo.
The timetable was approved for release by the party following a series of meetings in Abuja with its National Executive Committee and the National Working Committee.
A closer look at the new primary election schedule released on Friday reveals that, aside from dates and locations, it was not significantly different from the previous ones used for the timetable deployed last year for other states’ primaries.
The cost of the governorship form remains at N50 million, as opposed to the presidential primary, where contenders had to pay N100 million to get nomination and expression of interest forms.
However, the recently issued schedule specified that prospective female candidates and people with disabilities need only get the expression of interest form (N10m), while the nomination form will be given away free of charge.
Youth politicians between the ages of 25 and 40 are also invited to pick up the form at a discounted price of N30m if they intend to run for governor in the primary.
However, Argungu advised all candidates running for office in their respective states to pick up and submit their application forms from February 15 to 22 at the APC national headquarters in Wuse II in Abuja.
The screening of candidates will take place from March 24 to 26. He stated, “The deadline for submitting the full governorship nomination form, declaration of interest, and associated documentation is Wednesday, February 22. The screening appeal takes place the day after the screening results are revealed on March 28.
“Members to elect delegates will be financially committed party members for a minimum of three months prior to the date of the delegate Congress at a fee of N200 per month. It costs N5,000 to purchase the delegate form.
The primary election will take place on Monday, April 10, according to the ruling party’s announcement, and Congress will validate the results of the governorship primaries in Imo and Bayelsa on Tuesday, April 11. On Wednesday, April 12, the primary election appeal will be held.
