Aisha Binani wins the election for governor of Adamawa. She creates history by being the first woman win a gubernatorial election in Nigeria. The first was Dame Virginia Etiaba of the state of Anambra.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for governor and incumbent governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, and the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for governor, Aishatu Dahiru, often known as Binani, were in a tight fight.
Binani has been crowned the victor and became the first woman to hold the state governor’s office in Nigeria.
In a closely contested race, Binani prevailed with a margin of victory of little over 6,000 votes over her rival. Some have responded this victory saying that this is a win for not just Aisha Binani but for every female Nigeria.
